About The Killer Shrimps
The Killer Shrimps, a Cambridgeshire-based band popular for its laid back melodic sound, consists of four friends James, Julian, Stephen and Philip. The guys first came together as a band in 2010 when Julian (keys and sax) and James (lead vocals) took a booking to perform at a birthday party – they decided to strengthen their performance and enlisted the help of Philip (percussion), and Philip found out his farrier, Stephen played the bass over a pint one evening – and invited him to join The Killer Shrimps. Since The Killer Shrimp’s inaugural gig, the band have gone on to evolve their repertoire and showmanship to bring a unique performance to every booking. The Killer Shrimps continued to perform at local events, but in 2012 the guys took their most formative steps toward becoming a gigging band.
Early on, the band wanted to set itself apart from other acts by each bringing their own unique sense of musicianship to the band – James and Stephen’s folk influences, Julian’s love of jazz and swing and Philip’s eclectic musical heroes across the classical, rock and punk genres! In Summer 2012, the band performed for an estimated total of 1,000 fans at a headline show on the stage at Ramsey’s Party in the Field and on the heels of this success, the band started seeking local gigs at pubs and parties across Cambridgeshire.
The band now cover a whole range of music from great contemporary bands and solo artists including Muse, Keane, Amy Winehouse, Norah Jones, Will Young and Coldpay, to Patti Smith and Nina Simone - all performed with a unique Killer Shrimp twist!
